Forget arguments over where to go for dates, boring journeys to meet the other and depressing days spent wondering when the next time you’ll see each other will be, they’re right there on tap when you want them. But 24 hours a day seven days a week is a lot of time to spend with someone.Much like if someone were absent-mindedly walking into the path of an on-rushing bus, if I found out a friend were considering dating a roommate, I would sprint, dive and pull him or her out of harm’s way. Here’s why: Sometimes it’s clear you’re both on the same page. Normally, were this person not your roommate, I’d say, go ahead, put yourself out there. If you’d gone on a first or second date with someone (even someone you’d known previously), would you then want to live with him or her? like, right away share a home, after your first date? Yet, if you date your roommate, that’s exactly what will happen. After a date, you may want to call your friend and gab about how it went …‘Never have sex with someone you live with,’ a friend warned, as I pondered the loveliness of my new housemate’s swirly green eyes. Nobody wants to wake up in a hungover, post-coital haze to find their previous night’s mistake clipping nose hair in the communal bathroom. But as with every rule, there’s always an exception. If it’s blatantly obvious that sparks are flying faster than a Katie Hopkins insult on Twitter, the ‘forbidden fruit’ of dating might be worth a bite. ONLY TAKE THE RISK IF YOU THINK IT’S WORTH IT If one of you is ready to shop for matching sets of Le Creuset while the other had some inconsequential post-cocktail bonking in mind, it’s going to end in tears.
If you don’t believe me, check out the comments on our article about a roommate’s girlfriend. It’s par for the course – issues always surface, whether they’re disastrous or minor.
That being said, if your relationship is a good one, there should be no secrets really worth keeping.
2 – Somewhat Embarrassing Moments Become Very Embarrassing If you are living with your romantic interest, suddenly all those sort of embarrassing moments, for example, bodily functions and bodily noises, may become way more embarrassing. There are certain things couples don’t do in front of each other right away, and it takes time to build up to that comfort level.
However, perhaps you are just so totally comfortable with each other, this won’t happen. 3 – The Boundaries Beware When you have a roommate, certain boundaries are established.
For example, if you share a bathroom, that doesn’t mean that you share shampoo or toothpaste.
